Rajinikanth's action drama Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, is heading to OTT sooner than expected, with Prime Video officially confirming the streaming date as September 11. The film will be available in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Coolie hit theaters on August 14, 2025. The movie received mixed reviews from critics and fans, but still managed to perform well at the box office. The film has grossed ₹510 crore worldwide in its first 20 days.

Prime Video's announcement is a surprise, as the platform typically reveals release dates closer to the streaming date. Some fans have expressed surprise at the quick turnaround, given the typical eight-week agreement for OTT releases after a theatrical debut, particularly since the Hindi version had a wide release in national chains. The Hindi version is expected to arrive on OTT eight weeks after the theatrical release.

Coolie features an ensemble cast including King Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj, Upendra, and Rachita Ram. Aamir Khan and Pooja Hegde also make cameo appearances. The film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and his score has been noted as one of the film's strengths, particularly in elevating Rajinikanth's mass moments.

In Coolie, Rajinikanth plays Deva, a former coolie union leader who investigates the death of his friend Rajasekhar, played by Sathyaraj. This quest leads him into conflict with powerful adversaries, including cartel boss Simon (Nagarjuna) and Dayal (Soubin Shahir). Soubin Shahir's performance, especially in the song 'Monica' featuring Pooja Hegde, has been well-received.

Despite being directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie is not part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), unlike his previous films Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.
