Boney Kapoor has recently revealed the real reason why his late wife, Sridevi, did not star in the blockbuster film "Baahubali: The Beginning". Contrary to previous reports suggesting Sridevi made exorbitant demands, Kapoor claims the producers offered her less money than she earned for "English Vinglish" and that they misled director S.S. Rajamouli about her requirements.
In an interview on the YouTube channel Game Changers, Kapoor addressed the controversy surrounding Sridevi's refusal to play the role of Sivagami in "Baahubali". He refuted claims that Sridevi demanded a hefty remuneration, including an entire hotel floor, ₹10 crore, and 10 flight tickets. Kapoor instead accused producer Shobu Yarlagadda of spreading lies about her demands.
Kapoor stated that the producers created confusion that prevented Sridevi from working on the film. He recounted how Rajamouli visited their home to discuss the film, and after he left, the producers offered Sridevi less money than she received for "English Vinglish". Kapoor questioned why his wife would agree to such a deal, especially since the film was leveraging her star power in both Hindi and Tamil markets. "She wasn't a struggling actor; you're getting mileage out of her, which includes some help in both Hindi and Tamil," he said.
Kapoor further alleged that the producers never informed Rajamouli about the actual offer made to Sridevi. Instead, they allegedly told him that she wanted an entire hotel floor and a large entourage. Kapoor clarified that the only specific request they had was to schedule major shoots around their children's school holidays.
Defending Sridevi's professionalism, Kapoor pointed out that if she were truly unprofessional, renowned directors like Rakesh Roshan, Yash Chopra, and K. Raghavendra Rao would not have repeatedly cast her in their films. He placed the blame squarely on the producers, accusing them of feeding Rajamouli false information. "These producers were the culprits who fed Rajamouli with wrong things," Kapoor said.
The success of the "Baahubali" franchise initiated a pan-India movement in the Indian film industry, benefiting everyone involved. However, the controversy surrounding Sridevi's rejection of the film has lingered for years. Kapoor's recent statements aim to set the record straight and defend his late wife's reputation.
Kapoor's revelation sheds new light on the circumstances surrounding Sridevi's decision to not be a part of "Baahubali". It challenges the previously held notion that her demands were unreasonable and paints a picture of miscommunication and, according to Kapoor, a deliberate attempt to undermine her. While Sridevi's absence from the film remains a missed opportunity, Kapoor's account seeks to restore her image and clarify the reasons behind her decision.
