Haryana's Health Minister, Arti Singh Rao, has announced the recruitment of 500 doctors to address the shortage of medical professionals in government hospitals across the state. This decision was made after a surprise inspection of the Loknayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in Kurukshetra on Friday.
During the unannounced visit, Minister Rao assessed the hospital's facilities, including the pharmacy, toilets, and wards, and identified areas needing immediate improvement. She expressed dissatisfaction with the unsanitary conditions, particularly in the children's ward, and reprimanded officers for the debris scattered around the hospital and the poor condition of the toilets. The minister has directed officials to promptly address these issues to enhance patient care.
Despite the concerns about cleanliness, Rao confirmed that essential medicines were sufficiently stocked in the pharmacy. She instructed health officials to ensure the provision of necessary facilities without delay. The inspection also shed light on the ongoing construction of a new hospital building aimed at improving healthcare service delivery, with a focus on hygiene and facility upgrades. The minister emphasized that the new building of the LNJP hospital, which is under construction, will be completed in a phased manner to maintain cleanliness and avoid causing any inconvenience to patients. She also laid stress on improving hygiene and upgrading all the toilets.
The recruitment proposal has already been prepared, and the hiring process will begin soon. This move is a significant step towards alleviating the burden on existing staff and ensuring better healthcare services for the people of Haryana.
Addressing the media, Rao also spoke about the challenges posed by the recent floods in many districts of Haryana. She stated that health department officers and staff are actively monitoring the health of the affected population, distributing free medicines, and conducting fogging operations to prevent the spread of diseases. Rao also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commendation of Kurukshetra's malaria control efforts.
Furthermore, Haryana is set to launch the 'Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan' from September 17 to October 2, 2025. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to public health and women's well-being. Union Health Minister Sh. J.P. Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Sh. Nayab Singh Saini will jointly inaugurate the campaign in Rohtak on September 17.
The Health Minister's announcements align with the Haryana government's broader efforts to strengthen the state's healthcare infrastructure and services. These efforts include upgrading existing medical facilities, increasing the number of MBBS and postgraduate seats, and establishing new medical colleges and universities.
