According to recent reports, Apple is planning to manufacture its first foldable iPhone in India, potentially launching in 2026. This move is part of Apple's broader strategy to increase iPhone production and introduce innovative designs to meet growing demand.

Apple is reportedly in discussions with suppliers in Taiwan to initiate test production of the foldable iPhone. Following successful testing and refinement of manufacturing processes in Taiwan, the mass production is intended to be shifted to India. A pilot production line is being considered in northern Taiwan to test equipment and manufacturing processes. The aim is to replicate the established processes in India for larger-scale output.

The tech giant is aiming to produce approximately 95 million iPhones in its 2026 lineup, marking an increase of over 10% from this year's production numbers. Apple anticipates that introducing a foldable iPhone model will be crucial in achieving these production targets.

The decision to manufacture in India aligns with Apple's expanding presence in the country. India has become an increasingly important production hub for iPhones. Recent reports indicate that Apple's sales in India have reached $9 billion following retail expansion.

While India is a critical production location, suppliers still face challenges related to importing equipment from China and securing Chinese engineers.

Earlier reports have provided insights into the potential design and features of Apple's foldable iPhone, codenamed V68. It is expected to feature a book-style design, similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series. The device may include four cameras: one on the cover, one inside, and two at the back. Additionally, it is rumored to replace Face ID with Touch ID and be eSIM-only, similar to the iPhone Air. The foldable iPhone is also expected to launch with Apple's in-house cellular modem.
