Nicolas Raskin's return to the Rangers' starting XI proved to be the catalyst for a much-needed victory over Hibernian in the Scottish League Cup quarter-final. The Belgian midfielder, who had been sidelined in the weeks leading up to the match, inspired his team to a 2-0 win, easing the pressure on manager Russell Martin.

The match was played amidst a backdrop of fan protests against Martin and club chief executive Patrick Stewart, fueled by Rangers' disappointing start to the Scottish Premiership season. The atmosphere at Ibrox was tense, with many supporters expressing their discontent.

Rangers fans were pleased with Raskin's return to the side. He had been left out of the squad completely by Martin for the previous two games against Hearts and Celtic because of an unknown issue between the two men.

The turning point in the game came in the 42nd minute when Raskin headed in a James Tavernier corner, giving Rangers a 1-0 lead. The goal was Raskin's first of the season and sparked celebrations among the Rangers supporters. Bojan Miovski added a second goal in added time, his first for the club, securing the victory and a place in the semi-final draw.

Raskin's performance was particularly impressive, as he not only scored the opening goal but also controlled the midfield and dictated the tempo of the game. His energy, determination, and creativity were instrumental in Rangers' success. Following the match, Raskin addressed his recent absence from the team, stating, "Listen, I think it's in the past now... We have to look forward with a good performance on the pitch. We have to look now forward and build on that". He acknowledged that "everything's not been perfect" and expressed his hope for a strong working relationship with Martin moving forward.

The win was Rangers' first in six matches across all competitions and provided much-needed relief for Martin. While the victory does not erase the concerns surrounding Rangers' league form, it does offer a glimmer of hope and a foundation to build upon.

Rangers have now won six of their last seven home meetings with Hibs and are now just two more victories away from securing a record-extending 29th Scottish League Cup title.
