Pawan Kalyan's latest action thriller, They Call Him OG, also known as OG, has taken the box office by storm, marking a significant milestone in Indian cinema in 2025. The film, which also stars Emraan Hashmi, has become the biggest opener of the year, surpassing several other major releases.
OG has achieved a phenomenal opening, collecting an estimated ₹90.25 crore net in India on its opening day. This includes ₹20 crore from paid previews. Worldwide, the film is expected to cross ₹150 crore on its first day. Early trade reports suggest the film has collected around ₹100 crore gross in India and ₹150 crore worldwide. The film's success can be attributed to the combination of Pawan Kalyan's immense stardom and Emraan Hashmi's fresh presence in Telugu cinema.
The movie has broken several records. OG has surpassed the opening day collections of other big films of 2025, including Coolie (₹65 crore), Chhava (₹31 crore), and Saiyaara (₹21.5 crore). It also beat Pawan Kalyan's previous film, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, which earned ₹16 crore on its first day. With premiere shows alone, They Call Him OG has raked in over ₹23 crore, surpassing collections of Pushpa 2 – The Rule (₹10.65 crore), Stree 2 (₹8.5 crore), and Chennai Express (₹6.75 crore).
They Call Him OG is directed by Sujeeth and produced by DVV Danayya under DVV Entertainment. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including Priyanka Arul Mohan, Prakash Raj, and Sriya Reddy. The film has a running time of approximately 154 minutes and has been certified A by the CBFC for its high-octane violence.
Emraan Hashmi makes his Telugu debut with OG, playing the antagonist Omi Bhau. His portrayal has been described as menacing and stylish, adding to the film's narrative. Hashmi's entry into Telugu cinema is seen as a significant step in increasing the pan-Indian appeal of Telugu films.
The film's success is not limited to India. In North America, OG has set new benchmarks, becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2025 from its premiere shows alone. It secured the fourth-biggest Telugu premiere day ever in the US market, surpassing recent blockbusters like Devara: Part 1 and Salaar: Part 1. The film earned $3 million (Rs 26 crore) from paid premieres in North America.
While OG has taken a slow start in the Hindi market, collecting ₹40 lakh net on its opening day, it is expected to gain momentum over the weekend. The film's worldwide opening day is expected to be over ₹100 crore gross, a record for Pawan Kalyan and director Sujeeth.
