Naukri.com parent, Info Edge, has been recognized as India's most successful venture investor, solidifying its position as a key player in the country's startup ecosystem. This recognition comes as a result of the company's long-term investments in Indian startups, including Zomato and Policybazaar, which have yielded significant returns.
Info Edge, led by Sanjeev Bikhchandani, often referred to as India's Warren Buffett, has invested a total of ₹3,959.16 crore across various platforms over the past one and a half decades. The fair market value of these investments is now several times that amount. A report by the Economic Times has highlighted Info Edge's success as a venture investor, noting that its investments in Zomato and Policybazaar between 2011 and 2015 are currently worth approximately ₹53,000 crore.
Bikhchandani's journey as an investor began after a chance encounter with the internet at a trade fair in Delhi 28 years ago, which led to the creation of Naukri.com. Info Edge's investments in Zomato (12.40 per cent stake in Eternal, the listed entity name of the food delivery firm) and Policybazaar (19.63 per cent stake) proved to be highly successful, with both companies' IPOs becoming major successes. These investments have made Info Edge the biggest beneficiary of startup listings in India.
In his annual letter to shareholders at the end of FY25, Bikhchandani stated that Info Edge has achieved an estimated 36 per cent gross IRR across all vintages since it began financial investing in 2007. Info Edge was an early backer of Zomato and Policybazaar, investing ₹483.78 crore and ₹591.40 crore in the two companies, respectively. As of now, Info Edge's shareholding in Zomato is worth about ₹38,350 crore, and its shareholding in Policybazaar is worth ₹15,133 crore.
Info Edge's success as a venture investor can be attributed to its hybrid investment approach, which combines direct investments from its balance sheet with structured investments through dedicated funds. In 2020, the company formalized its venture capital journey with the launch of Info Edge Ventures, a USD 100 million fund co-sponsored by Temasek.
As of September 2025, Info Edge Ventures has invested in 94 companies, with 13 new investments made in the last 12 months. The firm primarily invests in seed rounds in India-based startups, with investments spread across a wide range of sectors, including enterprise applications, consumer and retail. Info Edge Ventures' portfolio includes two unicorns, Shiprocket and Policybazaar, three IPOs, and five acquisitions.
Info Edge has a total corpus of ₹3,422.94 crore, spread over three funds, of which it has committed ₹1,613.75 crore. Info Edge Venture Fund was rolled out in 2019 as a SEBI-registered AIF venture capital fund. The company's early-stage investments now contribute 30-40% of its overall value.
Info Edge continues to strengthen its role in India's startup ecosystem with its new venture fund, IE Venture Investment Fund III, to which it has committed INR 1,000 crore. In partnership with Temasek, the new fund is expected to exceed INR 2,000 crore and will primarily target early-stage startups in sectors such as consumer internet, fintech, edtech, and software.
