Harry Kane's future is once again a topic of speculation, but the prolific striker seems increasingly open to extending his stay with Bayern Munich and less certain about a return to the Premier League.
Kane's current contract with the Bundesliga giants runs until 2027, but recent reports of a release clause that could be activated as early as next summer have sparked rumors of a potential move. The suggested release clause is reportedly around £56.7 million, which would drop to £54 million next summer. This has led to speculation about a return to his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, and links with Manchester United.
However, Kane himself has indicated a shift in his thinking regarding a return to English football. "In terms of the Premier League, I don't know," Kane stated. "If you had asked me when I first left to go to Bayern, I would have said for sure I would come back. Now I have been there a couple of years I would probably say that has gone down a little bit, but I wouldn't say I would never go back".
He emphasized his commitment to Bayern Munich, saying, "I am fully all in with Bayern. If there was a conversation about extending then we will see, but I have still got this season and another season. It is not like I am in my last year, it is not like there is any panic".
Bayern Munich's management has also expressed their desire to keep Kane at the club for the long term. Sporting director Christoph Freund said, "We're probably witnessing the best version of Harry Kane there has ever been. He's a perfect player for us, and Harry feels very comfortable in Munich, with the team and his family. That's why we hope he'll stay in Munich for a few more years".
Freund also suggested that both Kane and Bayern could "easily imagine continuing together beyond the end of the current contract". Similarly, Bayern director Max Eberl stated that a "collaboration beyond 2027 is absolutely conceivable" and that they plan to discuss the next steps with Kane in a "relaxed manner". Eberl praised Kane as an "absolute leader" and expressed his desire to win titles with him for a long time to come.
Kane's stellar performance since joining Bayern in 2023 has further solidified his importance to the team. In 104 official matches, he has already scored 100 goals and provided 29 assists. Recently, he reached his 100th goal for Bayern in just 104 matches, breaking a record shared by Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland.
While Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has publicly stated that he would "more than welcome" Kane back to the club, he also admitted that he doesn't believe it will happen in the immediate future. Frank acknowledged Kane's happiness at Bayern and his continued high level of performance.
Kane's focus remains on achieving success with Bayern Munich, including a potential Champions League title. With Bayern expressing their desire to extend his contract and Kane himself open to the possibility, it seems increasingly likely that his future lies in Bavaria. While a return to the Premier League remains a possibility, it is no longer the foregone conclusion it once seemed.
