In a significant operation, Bhim Mahabahadur Jora, a notorious Nepalese criminal wanted in multiple cases, was killed in a joint police encounter in Delhi. The operation was conducted by a joint team of the Special Staff of Delhi Police's South-East District and the Gurugram Crime Branch in the Aastha Kunj Park area, near East of Kailash, during the night of October 6 and 7.
Acting on a secret tip-off regarding Jora's movements, the joint police team launched an operation to intercept him. According to DCP South-East Hemant Tiwari, when confronted by the police, Jora opened fire, discharging six rounds in an attempt to escape. The police retaliated, firing five rounds, resulting in Jora sustaining bullet injuries. He was immediately taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he was declared dead.
Bhim Mahabahadur Jora, 39, was a resident of Lalpur, Kailali District, Nepal. He was wanted in connection with several cases, including the armed dacoity and murder of Dr. Paul in Jangpura, New Delhi, in May 2024. A reward of ₹50,000, which some sources claim was ₹1 lakh, had been announced for his arrest.
Police reports indicate that Jora was a notorious inter-state criminal involved in at least six cases of murder, dacoity, and burglary across Delhi, Gurugram, Gujarat, and Bengaluru. He was also wanted in connection with a recent burglary at a BJP leader's residence in Gurugram, and had been absconding for several months.
During the encounter, police recovered a sophisticated automatic pistol, one live round, several empty cartridges, and a bag containing house-breaking tools from Jora's possession.
According to police, Jora was the alleged kingpin of a transnational Nepali dacoity and theft syndicate and had been absconding for nearly 17 months for his role in the murder of Dr. Yogesh Chandra Paul, 63, during a robbery in May 2024. Four of Jora's accomplices had already been arrested in connection with the murder.
During the encounter, a bullet struck the bulletproof jacket of Inspector Narendra Sharma, who narrowly escaped injury. Jora's associate managed to escape in the darkness.
