Vaishno Devi Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir to restart today after rain-induced suspension of last three days.

The Vaishno Devi Yatra is set to resume on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, after a three-day suspension due to heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions. The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) announced that all Yatra registration counters will be operational from 6:00 AM onwards. Devotees have been advised to stay updated through official communication channels for further information.

The Yatra was suspended on October 5, 2025, following a heavy rainfall alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Authorities closed registration counters and temporarily halted the movement of pilgrims to ensure safety. Recent floods in Jammu and Kashmir caused widespread damage, particularly in Kishtwar, Kathua, and Doda districts. The Mata Vaishno Devi track at Ardhkuwari also experienced disruptions and damage due to the rains.

The SMVDSB posted the information about the resumption of the Yatra on X (formerly Twitter). The board had earlier announced the suspension of the Yatra from October 5 to 7, 2025, also via a post on X.

The Directorate of School Education Jammu had ordered the closure of all government and private schools for two days, October 6 and 7, in view of the weather advisory. All schools in the Jammu division are also scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, following the improvement in weather conditions.

The Vaishno Devi Yatra has faced multiple suspensions this year due to rain, flash floods, and landslides. It had recently resumed on September 17, 2025, after a 22-day hiatus caused by a landslide near Ardhkuwari. This earlier landslide on August 26 resulted in 34 fatalities and 20 injuries. Following the Yatra's resumption on September 17, more than 1.70 lakh pilgrims paid their respects at the Vaishno Devi temple during Navratri.

Authorities have carried out necessary safety checks, and officials have stated that the Yatra will now resume smoothly, bringing relief to the thousands of pilgrims who have been waiting to visit the holy shrine. Devotees are advised to plan their travel after obtaining updates from official channels.
