In the Rajouri and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have intensified their search operations to track down terrorists believed to be hiding in the remote forest areas. These operations were initiated following a brief encounter between police and suspected terrorists in the Beeranthub area of Kandi, Rajouri, on Tuesday evening. Additionally, the movement of three suspected terrorists was reported in the Dharni Top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur.
The police, along with the army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have strengthened the cordon around the specified areas and launched a large-scale search operation to find and neutralize the terrorists. The cordon and search operations have been extended to nearby areas. However, no fresh contact with the terrorists has been reported thus far.
According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Bhim Sen Tuti, the exchange of fire occurred between terrorists and a Special Operations Group (SOG) team in the Beeranthub area, under the jurisdiction of the Kandi Police Station in Rajouri. Joint teams comprising the police, army, and CRPF were immediately dispatched to the location to cordon off the area.
Security forces are conducting multiple counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir to neutralize terrorist threats in the region. The first operation began in the Rajouri district, after security forces received information about the presence of two to three terrorists. During the search operation, terrorists fired upon security forces, resulting in a gun battle. The operation is still ongoing, with security forces maintaining a strong presence to secure the area and apprehend or neutralize the terrorists. The second counter-terrorism operation is underway in the rugged terrain of Dharni Top, in the Basantgarh area of the Udhampur district.
Reliable intelligence indicated that three suspected terrorists were seen moving through the densely forested region of this remote area. A joint team, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and paramilitary forces, mobilized to neutralize the threat. The entire area has been effectively sealed off, with security forces establishing a tight cordon to prevent the terrorists' escape. Troops are meticulously searching the challenging, forested terrain to locate and apprehend the suspects, ensuring the region's safety and security.
In addition to the operations in Rajouri and Udhampur, security forces have launched a massive search operation in the forests of the Kokernag area in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir to track down terrorists. The search operation was launched two days prior in the Ahlan Gadole area of Kokernag, following intelligence inputs about a group of terrorists hiding there. Ahlan Gadole has emerged as a new hotspot of terrorism in Kashmir, witnessing two major encounters in August 2024 and September 2023.
The Poonch-Rajouri region has been on high alert for terrorist activity and has been the site of numerous terrorist attacks and encounters since October 2021.
