Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Defamation Case Against Brother and Wife Dismissed: Court Rejects Rs 100 Crore Claim.

The Bombay High Court has dismissed a ₹100 crore defamation suit filed by actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui against his brother, Shamasuddin Siddiqui, and estranged wife, Anjana Pandey. Justice Jitendra Jain dismissed the suit due to non-prosecution, as Siddiqui and his advocate failed to appear in court on multiple scheduled hearings. A detailed copy of the order is awaited.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui had filed the civil suit seeking damages for alleged defamation and loss of reputation, claiming that the actions of Pandey and his brother had severely impacted his professional and personal life. He alleged that false and defamatory content posted by his brother and former wife led to a loss of more than ₹100 crore. Siddiqui claimed the fallout affected the release of his upcoming films and his social standing, making him hesitant to attend public events. He also alleged harassment and blackmail through "cheap videos and comments on social media," insisting these actions were intended to extort money and damage his image.

In his suit, Siddiqui stated that he had appointed his younger brother, Shamasuddin, as his manager in 2008, entrusting him with responsibilities such as auditing, filing income tax returns, and paying GST. Siddiqui alleged that he gave Shamasuddin access to his credit cards, debit cards, ATM cards, signed checkbooks, bank passwords, and email addresses. However, he claimed Shamasuddin misused this trust, misappropriated around ₹20 crore, and acquired properties jointly but deceitfully led Siddiqui to believe they were in his name. These properties included flats and commercial spaces in Mumbai, a farmhouse in Shahpur, land in Buldhana, a property in Dubai, and several luxury vehicles.

Siddiqui also accused his ex-wife, Anjana Pandey, of misusing funds meant for their children's education and a production house. He claimed that after he removed Shamasuddin as his manager in 2020, his brother instigated Pandey to file false cases against him and circulated defamatory content. The actor sought a permanent injunction to restrain Shamasuddin and Pandey from making further defamatory statements, a written public apology, and disclosure of all individuals to whom they allegedly conveyed false information.

Advocates representing Shamasuddin stated that the entire case filed by Nawazuddin was baseless and aimed to pressure their client regarding financial disputes. They claimed the suit was an attempt to leverage financial disagreements. Shamasuddin's legal team argued that Siddiqui's claims lacked justification.

With the dismissal of the suit due to non-prosecution, Nawazuddin Siddiqui's allegations against his brother and estranged wife remain unaddressed in court.
