Gurucharan Singh, widely recognized for his portrayal of Roshan Singh Sodhi in the popular sitcom "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah" (TMKOC), has ignited a wave of excitement among fans by hinting at a potential return to the show and teasing "good news". This announcement follows a challenging period for the actor, marked by personal and financial struggles.
Singh, a beloved original cast member, was fondly remembered for his portrayal of Sodhi, a jovial and affectionate character. He was part of the show since its beginning in 2008. He initially left the show in 2013, only to return the following year due to popular demand. However, he made his final exit from the show in 2020, and the role of Sodhi was then taken over by Balwinder Singh Suri.
In a recent video shared on his Instagram account, Singh expressed gratitude to his fans and family for their prayers and support. "Today I have come before you all after a long time, because finally God has heard the prayers of me, my family and my fans," he said. He further added, "Thank you all. I have some good news, which is very big for me. I will share that news with you very soon". This message has fueled speculation about his possible comeback to "Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah".
The actor's journey has been fraught with difficulties in recent years. After his exit from TMKOC in 2020, Singh faced numerous personal and professional challenges. In April 2024, he was reported missing, causing concern among his fans and the television industry. He later resurfaced, revealing that he had embarked on a spiritual journey. He visited several Gurudwaras across Amritsar and Ludhiana during this time. Singh also spoke openly about his financial struggles, revealing that he was in debt. He had no work for a period and had to repay his debts, which made life very tough for him. In an interview, Singh stated that he is burdened with a debt of ₹1.2 crore. He was also hospitalized and stopped eating solid food for a period, with his friend revealing that he had stopped eating food since his return home in May 2024.
Despite these hardships, Singh remains positive and eager to resume his career. In an interview, Singh said that he wants the industry to support him by giving him work and that he is back and wants to do a lot of work. He also wants to pay off all the loans and debts that he has, one by one and is ready to work hard.
Adding to the speculation surrounding his return to TMKOC, Singh revealed that he received a call from the show's producer, Asit Kumarr Modi. He also hinted that he might return to the show. In July 2024, Singh met with Asit Kumarr Modi, further fueling speculation about his comeback. However, he clarified that Balvinder Singh Suri is currently playing the role of Roshan Singh Sodhi, and he doesn't want to jeopardize his friend's job. Singh added that he is open to returning but will wait and see how things fall in place, as Asit Kumarr Modi will ultimately make the final decision.
While the "good news" remains undisclosed, fans are hopeful that it signals a positive turn for Gurucharan Singh, whether it involves a return to the beloved sitcom or a new venture.
