Ilaiyaraaja Receives Bomb Threat Following Nayanthara, Vijay & Trisha; Police Confirm Threat Was A Hoax.

Chennai, October 15, 2025 – Acclaimed music director Ilaiyaraaja's studio in T. Nagar, Chennai, became the latest target of a bomb threat on Tuesday, triggering a security alert and prompting a thorough search by law enforcement. The incident follows a series of similar threats directed at other high-profile figures in the Tamil film industry, including actors Vijay, Trisha, and Nayanthara.

According to reports, the threatening email, which was also sent to the office of the Director General of Police (DGP), claimed that an explosive device had been planted within the studio premises. Upon receiving the alert, police personnel, including the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with sniffer dogs, were immediately dispatched to Ilaiyaraaja's studio.

After conducting a comprehensive search of the area, authorities confirmed that the bomb threat was a hoax. No suspicious objects or explosives were found, and the studio has since resumed normal operations.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the email sent to Ilaiyaraaja's studio bears similarities to previous hoax messages received by several VIPs and public figures in Chennai in recent weeks. The Cyber Crime and City Police teams have launched a joint investigation to identify the sender and determine the motive behind the repeated threats. Authorities are currently examining the technical details of the email to trace its origin.

The recurring nature of these threats has raised concerns within the Tamil film fraternity and among the public, prompting increased security measures and heightened vigilance. Ilaiyaraaja's legal team is reportedly coordinating with authorities to strengthen security protocols in anticipation of his upcoming public appearances.

In response to the escalating situation, law enforcement agencies have already made arrests in connection with similar hoax bomb threats. Iyappan, 36, from Thiruporur, was apprehended for threatening Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's residence, while Boopathi, 43, from Maduravoyal, was arrested for making similar threats against public places.

The investigation into the Ilaiyaraaja bomb threat is ongoing, with authorities determined to identify and apprehend the individual or group responsible for the series of hoax emails. The police have revealed that the bomb threat to Ilaiyaraaja's studio shared a resemblance to previous hoax emails sent to several high-profile individuals, including AIADMK chief Edappadi K. Palaniswami and NTK coordinator Seeman. Police had also conducted searches at the premises of Naam Tamilar Katchi coordinator Seeman and seven other places including the residence of Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

This incident occurs amidst Ilaiyaraaja's ongoing copyright dispute, where the veteran composer has filed a case in the Madras High Court against several companies, alleging unauthorized commercial use of his compositions. Ilaiyaraaja claims to have composed over 7,500 songs in various Indian languages and insists that all his works are being used without proper authorization.
