Ahmedabad, India – Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed immense pride and joy following the approval of India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad projected as the host city. Shah described it as "a day of immense joy and pride for India".

The confirmation of Ahmedabad as the proposed host city for the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games came after India submitted its bid. According to reports, Ahmedabad was chosen ahead of a bid from Nigeria. The Indian government is also making efforts to host the 2036 Olympic Games in Ahmedabad.

Shah also announced Ahmedabad will emerge as India's sports capital with world-class facilities. He emphasized the significance of this achievement, highlighting the efforts to develop Ahmedabad into a sporting hub not just for Gujarat, but for the entire Asian continent. To that end, 13 international events are planned to be held in Ahmedabad up to 2036.

If the bid is successful, this will be the second time India has hosted the Commonwealth Games, with the first being in 2010 in New Delhi.

In related news, Shah had previously inaugurated the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad. During the inauguration, Shah noted the progress of Indian athletes in the Para-Olympics, from 8 medals previously to 52. He also mentioned that the World Police and Fire Games will be held in 2029 at the sports complex and other facilities in Ahmedabad.
