Key Features of OxygenOS 16
OxygenOS 16 introduces a wide array of new functionalities and improvements, including:
- Fluid Animations: With "Parallel Processing 2.0", animations now initiate before previous actions conclude, creating a continuous sense of smoothness throughout the UI. This enhancement spans system interactions, navigation gestures, and app transitions.
- AI-Powered Tools: OxygenOS 16 boasts new AI features, including the AI Writer for generating creative text or proofreading existing content, and the AI Recorder for transcribing and summarizing conversations. The Gallery app also receives AI enhancements for adjusting portrait lighting and expressions. Plus Mind has been updated with Google Gemini integration.
- Customizable Lock Screen: Users can now personalize their lock screens with new clock styles, widgets, and support for live photos and videos. The new Flux Theme 2.0 also brings video wallpapers and motion photos, adding depth effects to interactions. A full-screen Always-On Display (AOD) option keeps the wallpaper visible along with essential information.
- Resizable Icons: OxygenOS 16 lets users adjust the size of app icons and folders on their home screens, offering greater control over layout and organization.
- Fluid Cloud: This feature delivers real-time updates and alerts from apps like food delivery services, sports platforms, and music streaming services directly to the lock screen.
- Design and Personalization: The Luminous Rendering Engine delivers light field motion effects and immersive weather visuals. The new "One Serif" font is optimized for reading. Core interfaces have been refined for clarity, and apps like Clock, Calculator, and Compass feature updated designs.
- Trinity Engine: This feature optimizes resources in real-time, ensuring smooth performance during video playback, gaming, and extended camera use. It also contributes to faster app launches and reduced battery drain.
- Parallel Processing: System apps now feature animations that start and end at intuitive points, creating smoother interactions. Drag-and-drop animations on the home screen, widgets, and folders are also enhanced.
- Cross-Device Connectivity: The new O+ Connect app facilitates easy file transfers between phones and PCs, allowing users to view, drag, and drop photos wirelessly and mirror their phone screens. OxygenOS 16 also adds support for Apple Watch integration.
The update is being rolled out in batches, so it may take some time to reach all users in India. Other OnePlus devices, including the OnePlus 13R, OnePlus Open, OnePlus 12, OnePlus Pad 3, and OnePlus Pad 2, are also slated to receive the OxygenOS 16 update this month.
