Kesaria, Bihar – The Kesaria Assembly constituency in Bihar is witnessing a three-way battle in the 2025 elections, with key candidates from the Janata Dal (United), Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), and Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) vying for the crucial seat. The constituency, located in the Purvi Champaran district, went to the polls on November 11, 2025, during the second phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections.
Shalini Mishra, representing the JD(U), is looking to retain her seat after winning the 2020 elections. In the 2020 assembly polls, Shalini Mishra won by a margin of 6% over RJD's Santosh Kushwaha. Mishra is also the State General Secretary of Janata Dal (United) Bihar unit. Initial trends from the vote counting suggest that Mishra is currently in the lead. In the last Assembly Election held in 2020, Shalini Mishra from the JD(U) won the Kesaria seat with 56.5% of the total votes polled. The victory margin was 40219 votes over Santosh Kushwaha of the RJD.
Varun Vijay, the candidate from the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), is a strong contender in this election. Varun Vijay's total assets amount to Rs 2.1Crore, while liabilities stand at Rs 14.6Lac. Two cases are registered against Varun Vijay. He is 38 years old and has an educational qualification of 12th Pass.
Naaz Ahmed Khan is representing the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP). Naaz Mohammed Ahmed Khan is 40 years old. One charges relate to Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means (IPC Section-324). One charges relate to Punishment for criminal intimidation (IPC Section-506).
The Kesaria constituency has a diverse electorate and plays a crucial role in Bihar's governance. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Radha Mohan Singh won the Purvi Champaran Lok Sabha (MP) seat with a margin of 88287 votes, defeating Dr Rajesh Kumar of the Vikassheel Insaan Party.
The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 were conducted in two phases and is mainly a battle between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Mahagathbandhan and the Jan Suraaj Party. This year, Bihar witnessed a voter turnout of 57.3%, slightly higher than in 2020. Counting is underway for the Kesaria seat in Bihar, where Shalini Mishra of JD(U) is facing Varun Vijay of the Vikassheel Insaan Party (Mahagathbandhan) and Naj Ahamad Khan of Jan Suraaj Party. The voter turnout was 68%.
