In a recent alert to her fans, actress Kriti Kharbanda revealed that she has become the latest victim of identity theft, with an imposter impersonating her on WhatsApp. Kharbanda took to Instagram to warn her followers about the scam, sharing a screenshot of the fraudulent WhatsApp conversation.
The actress emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that it was "not cool" and "not okay". She explicitly stated that the number being used by the imposter did not belong to her and cautioned her fans to be wary of any communication from that source. "Pretending to be someone you're not is a clear case of identity theft. Be warned," she wrote in her Instagram story.
The shared screenshot revealed the imposter engaging in conversation while posing as Kharbanda. When the recipient of the message questioned the authenticity of the number, writing, "This is not her number," the imposter allegedly responded with "I messaged from this baba," a response that further raised alarm. The content of the "random questions" the imposter was asking remains undisclosed.
Kharbanda's warning comes shortly after actress Rakul Preet Singh also exposed a similar incident of identity theft, where someone was impersonating her on WhatsApp. Singh alerted her fans, urging them not to engage in any random conversations and to block the imposter's number.
Identity theft has become increasingly common in the entertainment industry. In separate incidents, actors Sunny Leone and Abhinav Shukla have also reported their identities being used by fraudsters to take out multiple loans from banks. Shukla highlighted the evolving nature of these scams, noting that fraudsters are constantly developing new tricks. He also advised vigilance and caution when sharing personal information online, even for public figures.
Kharbanda was last seen in the web series "Rana Naidu 2," alongside Rana Daggubati. She is currently working on the film "Risky Romeo".
