Vishal Jethwa Shares Memories of Cut Scenes with Janhvi Kapoor: "Homebound" Had Beautiful Moments

Vishal Jethwa, known for his role in Neeraj Ghaywan's critically acclaimed film Homebound, has recently revealed that several scenes featuring him and Janhvi Kapoor were cut from the final version of the movie. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Jethwa discussed the film, its success, and the changes he's experienced in his career since its release.

Homebound, which stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor, follows the story of two childhood friends, Shoaib (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa), who share a dream of joining the police force. The film is inspired by journalist Basharat Peer's article, "Taking Amrit Home," also known as "A Friendship, a Pandemic and a Death Beside the Highway".

Jethwa stated that while he doesn't regret any of the cuts, some of the deleted scenes with Janhvi Kapoor were particularly beautiful. He also mentioned an emotional scene with his mother that didn't make the final cut, as well as montages with Ishaan Khatter. He understands that these cuts were necessary to achieve the film's final duration, emphasizing that "finally, we are serving the film". According to Jethwa, to benefit the movie, the team had to make some sacrifices, a sentiment echoed by director Neeraj Ghaywan and Ishaan Khatter.

Homebound has garnered significant attention, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival and receiving a nine-minute standing ovation. It was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and selected as India's official entry for the Best International Feature Film at the Academy Awards.

Despite the film's success, Homebound faced some hurdles during its release. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) requested 11 modifications, resulting in 77 seconds of footage being cut. These changes included muting or replacing words in several instances, removing a dialogue, and shortening a cricket match sequence.

Jethwa also shared how Homebound's success has positively impacted his career, "I started getting a lot of different kinds of films that were not coming out till now". He feels that the film has given him a good position, success, a name, and good offers, making it a memorable milestone in his life.

In addition to discussing Homebound, Jethwa recounted his experience meeting Martin Scorsese and working with Salman Khan in Tiger 3. He described meeting Scorsese as a lifetime memory and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to simply listen to the legendary director.

Homebound continues to receive accolades and recognition, solidifying Vishal Jethwa's position as a rising star in the Indian film industry.
