An accidental explosion rocked the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday night, injuring eight police personnel. The blast occurred during the sampling and examination of explosive material that had been seized earlier.
The explosives were linked to an ongoing investigation into a recent terrorist car blast near Delhi's Red Fort. According to officials, the seized material, totaling approximately 360 kilograms, was recovered from the rented accommodation of Dr. Muzzamil Ganaie in Faridabad. Dr. Ganaie is among eight individuals arrested in connection with what authorities are describing as a "white-collar" terror module. The case was initially registered at the Nowgam police station on October 19.
The explosion occurred while police officers and a forensic team were inspecting the explosives within the police station premises. The intensity of the blast damaged several vehicles parked in the compound. Following the incident, fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene, and all roads leading to the police station were closed.
While initial reports indicated injuries to eight personnel, authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming any fatalities. However, there are concerns that the incident may have resulted in casualties.
The incident is under investigation.
