For instance, before the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Shah traveled extensively throughout Uttar Pradesh, staying in government rest houses and connecting with local party workers. He ensured the constitution of a 21-member committee at almost every booth and ensured that these booth committees remained active throughout the year.

In Bihar, he camped in the state for 19 days, engaging closely with party workers and formulating and executing the ground strategy that helped position the BJP as the single largest party. Shah also played a crucial role in calming down approximately 100 rebels who had the potential to undermine the party's prospects. His intervention proved highly effective and helped the BJP win more seats where rebels had threatened to hurt the party.

In Uttar Pradesh, he adroitly employed social media, mainly Facebook and WhatsApp, to shape public opinion. Informally organized WhatsApp groups involving more than 1.7 million readers were the bedrock of his opinion-forming strategy.
His ability to forge alliances with regional parties has also been crucial in expanding the BJP's reach. He smoothed relations between the JD(U) and LJP(RV) and coordinated efforts that helped both parties, finally ending the political bitterness left over from 2020. In the 2019 election, Shah was also responsible for forging the BJP's alliances with regional parties like Pattali Makkal Katchi.
While Shah focuses on strategy and organization, other leaders also play crucial roles. In the recent Bihar victory, Dharmendra Pradhan strengthened the party's organizational base and ground presence, while Vinod Tawde focused on messaging and social coalition-building. Rajnath Singh, with his credible and balanced image, addressed the social and political sensitivities of Bihar and delivered a clear message of development and stability. Yogi Adityanath's tough image, fiery oratory style, and explicit Hindutva politics were particularly influential among young voters.

He joined the BJP in 1987 and has since held various positions within the party.
