New Delhi, November 26, 2025 – The nation is today celebrating Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. A central event is being held at the Samvidhan Sadan, formerly the old Parliament building, in New Delhi.
President Droupadi Murmu is leading the celebrations at the Samvidhan Sadan. The President will preside over the ceremony and lead the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, and Members of Parliament are also in attendance. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi were also present at the event.
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs stated the "national function" to commemorate Constitution Day would be held in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan. The Speaker and the Vice-President will address the gathering, followed by an address from the President.
A key highlight of the event is the digital launch of the Constitution of India in nine languages: Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Bodo, Kashmiri, Telugu, Odia, and Assamese. This initiative, spearheaded by the Legislative Department of the Union Law Ministry, aims to make the Constitution more accessible to a wider population.
Furthermore, a commemorative booklet focusing on the art and calligraphy of the original Constitution will be released. The Ministry of Culture is slated to release a special Hindi commemorative booklet highlighting the art and calligraphy in the Indian Constitution.
Prime Minister Modi marked Constitution Day by emphasizing the importance of constitutional duties and encouraging increased participation in democratic processes. He recalled the government's 2015 declaration of November 26 as Constitution Day to highlight the Constitution's role in India's framework.
Across the country, Union Ministries, state and Union territory governments, and local bodies are organizing various programs to mark the occasion. Citizens can participate through online reading of the Preamble on MyGov.in and Constitution75.com. National online quizzes and competitions are also being planned under the theme “Hamara Samvidhan – Hamara Swabhiman”.
Constitution Day, or Samvidhan Diwas, has been celebrated on November 26 since 2015. This day commemorates the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly in 1949, a body that took two years, eleven months, and seventeen days to draft the historic document. While some provisions came into force immediately, the remainder went into effect on January 26, 1950, when India officially became a Republic. The day is marked by the Central government's celebration of the principles of democracy, justice, and equality. This year marks the 76th anniversary of the adoption of the constitution.
