Amidst a significant surge in voter numbers in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President J.P. Nadda has called on the opposition parties to support the Election Commission's (EC) Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This appeal comes against a backdrop of rising political tensions and accusations surrounding the revision of electoral rolls in the state.
Nadda emphasized the importance of unity among political parties in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process. He highlighted the notable increase in the number of voters in West Bengal and urged all parties to cooperate with the Election Commission in its efforts to revise the electoral roll. Opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) have accused the government of using the EC to target specific communities and manipulate the electoral landscape. Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has been a vocal critic of the SIR, alleging that the exercise is being used to remove genuine voters from the list and disenfranchise minorities. Banerjee has announced and led protest marches against the EC's action, claiming that the SIR is a politically motivated move by the central government.
