Ullmark and Tkachuk Shine as Senators Shut Out Penguins in Dominating 4-0 Victory

Linus Ullmark recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping all 24 shots he faced, and Brady Tkachuk scored twice as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 on Thursday night. The loss extends the Penguins' losing streak to seven games.

The Senators, now with a 16-13-4 record, have won three of their last four games. The Penguins, struggling with a 14-10-9 record, have not won since December 4th.

Tkachuk opened the scoring on the power play at 2:16 of the first period, converting a behind-the-back pass from Drake Batherson. Batherson and Tim Stützle assisted on the play. In the second period, David Perron redirected a shot from Jordan Spence at 1:34 to increase Ottawa's lead to 2-0, marking his 800th NHL point. Claude Giroux extended the lead to 3-0 at 4:50 of the second, scoring five-hole on Penguins goalie Arturs Silovs after a pass from Ridly Greig deflected off of Michael Amadio's skate. Tkachuk sealed the victory with an empty-net goal at 13:55 of the third period.

Silovs made 22 saves for the Penguins. Stützle, in his 400th career game, contributed with an assist on Tkachuk's first goal. His 360 points in 400 games rank fourth-most in Senators history behind Jason Spezza (416), Alexei Yashin (376), and Dany Heatley (362).

Senators' coach noted the team's improved defensive play in the third period, limiting the Penguins to perimeter shots. Despite their losing streak, the Penguins showed little desperation, according to reports. A key moment in the game was Ullmark's impressive save on Danton Heinen with Ottawa leading 1-0.

The Senators will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday, while the Penguins will visit the Montreal Canadiens.
