Truecaller's Voicemail Arrives in India for Android: A Detailed Look at How to Use the New Feature

Truecaller has launched a voicemail feature for Android users in India, designed to streamline communication and enhance call management. This new service allows callers to leave voice messages when a user is unavailable to answer a call. The voicemail feature is available for free to all users in India.

One of the key highlights of Truecaller's voicemail is its support for 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Nepali, Punjabi, Sanskrit, and Urdu. This extensive language support ensures that the service is accessible to a broad spectrum of users across India, reflecting Truecaller's focus on inclusivity and understanding of India's diverse linguistic landscape.

When a user misses a call, the caller can leave a voice message, which Truecaller then transcribes into text using AI. This transcription is displayed within the app, enabling users to read the message instead of listening to the entire recording. This feature is particularly useful in noisy environments or when users are in meetings and cannot listen to audio. The transcription process is designed to be quick, providing users with readable messages within seconds, depending on the message length and network conditions.

Truecaller's voicemail service also incorporates spam filtering. This feature helps users avoid unwanted interactions with potential nuisance or fraudulent callers. The app also offers smart call categorization. Furthermore, the voicemail comes with an adjustable playback speed. Voicemail recordings are stored locally on the device, giving users more control over their data and enhancing privacy. Users can manage their voicemail messages directly within the Truecaller app, without needing additional apps or complex configurations.

To enable the voicemail feature, Android users need to first enable call forwarding on their mobile numbers and update the Truecaller app to the latest version. Once updated, users can access the Voicemail tab within the app to view and manage their messages. Users can also personalize their voicemail greetings in their preferred language.

Truecaller Premium subscribers receive additional benefits through the Truecaller Assistant, including automatic call answering, personalized greetings, and advanced call handling. According to Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala, traditional voicemail systems were designed for a different era of communication. By making voicemail free, device-native, and seamlessly integrated into the calling experience, Truecaller aims to modernize how voice messages are used daily. The goal is to create a communication experience that is more trustworthy, inclusive, and intuitive by incorporating features like on-device storage, quick transcription, spam protection, and support for multiple Indian languages.
