Mona Singh has credited TVF (The Viral Fever) for being the launching pad for her OTT journey, acknowledging the platform's significant role in her transition from television to digital entertainment. In a recent statement, Singh expressed her gratitude towards TVF, recognizing their contribution to redefining digital storytelling in India.
Singh, a well-known face in the television industry, felt that she had explored almost every avenue that TV had to offer. It was during the 2020 lockdown, as OTT platforms gained immense popularity, that she began to contemplate her next career move. Inspired by TVF's series on YouTube, she was drawn to their real and relatable content. This inspiration led her to collaborate with TVF for her first web series, "Yeh Meri Family".
"Since lockdown 2020, everybody embraced OTT because we were sitting at home and consuming all the content," Singh said. "But for me, I felt individually, as a person, as an artist, TV was enough for me. I had done almost everything on TV. So there was nothing more left for TV to offer".
"I used to watch a lot of TVF series on YouTube. And I was really inspired that I should do something like this. This is so real and relatable," she added. "So I did my first web series with TVF, 'Yeh Meri Family'. And then of course, you know, my journey with OTT began and there was no looking back".
"Yeh Meri Family," set in the 1990s, resonated deeply with audiences, particularly those who grew up during that era. Singh played the role of a mother to tweens in the series, which struck a chord with viewers due to its relatable storyline.
TVF, recognized as one of India's leading content producers, has consistently delivered relatable and entertaining shows. The platform has been instrumental in introducing remarkable talents and transforming India's digital storytelling landscape. Starting with "Permanent Roommates" in 2014, TVF sparked the web-series revolution and went on to create groundbreaking shows such as "Pitchers," "Tripling," "Aspirants," "Panchayat," "Kota Factory," and "Gullak".
Singh is currently celebrating this phase of her career, where she is exploring diverse roles in movies and OTT platforms. She is consciously balancing her work across different mediums. Singh believes that OTT has been a positive turning point in her career.
