Sanjay Singh of AAP Accuses Central Government of Anti-Poor Policies with VB-G RAM G Bill.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh has strongly criticized the central government regarding the Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Bill, which was recently passed by both houses of Parliament. Singh warned against politicizing the name of Lord Ram through this scheme.

The VB-G RAM G Bill aims to replace the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). While the bill increases the guaranteed rural employment from 100 to 125 days, it has faced opposition from various parties, farmer unions, and labor groups. Critics argue that the bill weakens safeguards for laborers and was rushed through Parliament without proper scrutiny.

Singh predicted that the central government will be forced to withdraw the VB-G RAM G Bill, similar to the repeal of the three farm laws following widespread protests. He accused the government of trying to hide its failures behind the name of Lord Ram. Singh also alleged that the government wants a 40% contribution to the scheme from states already facing financial difficulties.

Other opposition MPs have echoed Singh's concerns. Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi stated that the government has "robbed the poor and labourers of their rights" by passing the bill in haste. He criticized the government for refusing to send the bill to a Select Committee despite repeated demands from the opposition.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan defended the bill, stating that it would play an essential role in the welfare of the poor. He accused the Congress party of disrespecting Mahatma Gandhi's ideals. BJP MP Dinesh Sharma welcomed the bill's passage, while accusing the opposition of opposing it for the sake of opposition.

The fund-sharing pattern between the central and state governments will be 60:40, except for North Eastern, Himalayan States, and Union Territories where it will be 90:10. State governments can also notify a period of up to sixty days in a financial year, covering peak agricultural seasons for sowing and harvesting.

The bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha after a six-hour debate, following its passage in the Lok Sabha. Opposition members staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha before the bill was passed, protesting the rejection of their demand to send it to a Select Committee.
