VYZOV Prize Sees Broad Global Interest: Applications Received From 40 Countries, Further Expansion Expected in 2025.

The VYZOV Prize has significantly broadened its global presence in 2025, attracting applications from researchers in 40 countries. This reinforces its transition from a national award to a respected global scientific honor. The prize recognizes high-technology research with the potential for practical application within the next decade.

This year, the VYZOV Prize received 632 submissions. The international "Discovery" category saw the highest number of submissions, indicating increased participation from outside of Russia. Applications were received from a diverse range of countries, including the United States, China, India, Brazil, Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, and Iran, as well as Indonesia, Egypt, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Venezuela.

The VYZOV Prize features five categories encompassing a wide array of scientific fields. These categories include "Breakthrough", "Engineering Solution", "Future", "Scientist of the Year" and the international one — "Discovery".

The "Engineering Solution" award was given to Mikhail Skupov for his work in developing industrial production of nitride nuclear fuel. Ilya Yampolsky received the "Breakthrough" award for research into the molecular mechanics of bioluminescence, which led to the development of glowing plants with biomedical applications. Stepan Kalmykov was named "Scientist of the Year" for his advances in radiochemistry aimed at safer radioactive waste management. Vera Vil received the "Future" Prize for developing environmentally friendly chemical synthesis methods.

The VYZOV Prize aims to recognize groundbreaking ideas and inventions in fundamental and applied science and engineering, as well as encourage the younger generation to pursue careers in science. Nominations can be submitted by a colleague, a scientific organization, or through self-nomination.

The prize fund for the 2025 awards is 60 million rubles, with 12 million rubles allocated to each of the five categories.

Artem Oganov, Chairman of the VYZOV Prize Scientific Committee, noted the increase in both the quantity and quality of applications this year, particularly in the international category. He emphasized the importance of the VYZOV Prize as a step towards international scientific unity and expressed anticipation for strong submissions from India in the coming year.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Vyzov Foundation for the Development of Scientific and Cultural Relations, stated that the prize has reached an international level and received recognition from partners abroad. He also noted the increased number of submissions from abroad, which have risen by almost 40%.
