Air India and IndiGo Issue Travel Alerts: Expect Delays and Disruptions Due to Dense Fog

As dense fog blankets Delhi and other parts of northern India, Air India and IndiGo have issued travel advisories, warning passengers of potential flight disruptions. The advisories come as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for near-zero visibility in the region.

Impact on Flight Operations

The dense fog and low visibility are expected to significantly impact flight operations, with potential delays, cancellations, and diversions. Several flights have already been affected, and airlines are urging passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport. IndiGo cancelled around 149 flights for Friday and Saturday. At least 27 flights were canceled and over 500 delayed due to weather-related disruptions.

Airlines' Responses

Air India, IndiGo, and SpiceJet have all issued travel advisories, alerting passengers to the potential for disruptions. The airlines have stated that they are taking proactive measures to minimize disruptions and assist affected passengers.

Air India has launched its 'FogCare' initiative, which allows passengers booked on flights likely to be affected by the fog to receive advance alerts and offers the option to reschedule their flights without any additional charges or seek a full refund. The airline has also assured passengers that ground staff will be available to assist them in case of delays or cancellations.

IndiGo has stated that it is actively monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with air traffic authorities to minimize inconvenience to passengers. The airline has also advised passengers traveling in the early hours to expect delays or revised timings. IndiGo has urged passengers to allow extra travel time and monitor their flight status.

SpiceJet has also warned that low visibility in Delhi could affect all arrivals, departures, and consequential flights.

Airport Measures

Delhi Airport has announced the implementation of CAT III operations, which allow aircraft to land safely in extremely low visibility conditions. However, the airport has warned that delays and disruptions are still likely. Airport authorities have stated that ground teams are working with stakeholders to assist passengers.

Passenger Advice

Passengers are advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines before traveling to the airport. They should also allow extra time for travel due to potential delays and traffic congestion. Passengers are also encouraged to stay updated on the latest weather forecasts and advisories from the IMD.

Ongoing Situation

The dense fog is expected to persist for the next few days, and further flight disruptions are possible. Airlines and airport authorities are working to manage the situation and minimize inconvenience to passengers. Passengers are advised to remain patient and understanding during this challenging time.
