The Maharashtra local body elections for 57 local bodies have concluded, with results announced on December 21, 2025. The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, has emerged as the dominant force, securing a significant majority of the seats. However, parties are awaiting a final ruling.

The State Election Commission (SEC) held elections in two phases, on December 2 and December 20, for 288 urban local bodies, which included 246 Municipal Councils and 42 Nagar Panchayats, across all six administrative divisions. Voter turnout was 67.3% in the first phase and 47.04% in the second phase.

The Mahayuti alliance has secured 207 posts of presidents in the local bodies. Within the alliance, the BJP has emerged as the single-largest party, winning 117 posts of municipal presidents. The Shiv Sena has secured 53 posts, while the NCP has won 37.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), consisting of the Congress, NCP (Sharad Pawar), and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray), has collectively won 44 posts. Individually, the Congress has secured 28 posts, the NCP (SP) seven, and Shiv Sena (UBT) nine. 28 seats of municipal presidents went to unrecognised registered parties.

In specific regions, the BJP has shown strong performance, such as in the Latur district, where it won the president's position in four out of five local bodies. In Nagpur, the BJP achieved near-sweep in Besa-Pipla with 16 out of 17 seats, and in Yerkheda, the BJP won 9 seats while Congress secured 6. In Pune district, the NCP bagged 10 out of 17 posts of presidents to the municipal councils and nagar panchayats.

The elections saw multi-dimensional contests, with the BJP-led Mahayuti and the opposition MVA clashing, along with "friendly fights" among alliance members in several areas.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the Mahayuti alliance's performance, attributing it to the public's trust in their vision for development. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also lauded the victory, noting that the alliance has secured a significant majority of the city council chairperson posts.

The results indicate a continued sway of the Mahayuti alliance in the state, while the MVA opposition bloc has yet to gain significant ground. Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC stated that the party's performance reflected voter preference for “development over surnames”.
