Activists Anjali Damania and Vijay Kumbhar have publicly alleged governmental inaction regarding a Pune land case, presenting what they claim is evidence of a "scam" and demanding further investigation. At a press conference on Monday, December 22, 2025, the activists stated that despite providing complaints and evidence, the police and government have failed to take appropriate action.
The focal point of the activists' concern is a land deal in Pune. Damania and Kumbhar presented text messages purportedly exchanged between an advocate, a collector (stamps), individuals identified as PAs to Ajit Pawar, and an OSD, discussing the land and the related case. According to Damania, these messages were shared with the police. They also produced a power of attorney document bearing Parth Pawar's signature alongside Sheetal Tejwani, who is identified as the power of attorney holder for the original holders of the Mahar Watan land parcel in Mundhwa. Further, they presented an authorization letter signed by Digvijay Patil, who is mentioned as a partner of Amadea Enterprises, authorizing advocate Thakur to represent Amadea in matters connected to the land.
Damania and Kumbhar have written to the Chief Minister, urging the inclusion of Parth Pawar's name in the FIR and calling for Ajit Pawar's resignation. They warned that if the police and government continue to be inactive despite the presented evidence, they will approach the High Court in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). In this scenario, they intend to name the Chief Minister, who also holds the home portfolio, as the first respondent for not acting on the complaints against the Pawars. The activists also referred to another power of attorney document allegedly signed in May 2021 between Sheetal Tejwani and Parth Pawar.
Parth Pawar has not yet responded to requests for comment.
In response to the allegations, the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) has refuted Damania's claims. NCP state spokesperson Anand Paranjpe stated that Damania is known for making allegations that have not been proven in court.
This land case development unfolds against the backdrop of other legal and social issues. In other news, the Supreme Court has ruled that forest lands cannot be used for non-forestry purposes, including agriculture. Separately, activists have been advocating for land distribution for Scheduled Castes ahead of planned protests.
In a different context, a Palestine Action activist in HMP Peterborough has vowed to continue a hunger strike, raising concerns about the treatment of activists in prison.
