In a moving tribute at a recent global event, Salman Khan expressed his deep admiration and grief for the late veteran actor, Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24, 2025. Describing Dharmendra as a father figure, Khan shared how profoundly the legendary actor influenced his life and career.
"I just lost a father figure, Dharam ji," Salman Khan stated, highlighting the immense inspiration he drew from the "Sholay" star. He added, "I have always followed him, and whatever I have done in my career… you know, I followed a hero. I followed Dharam ji". Khan emphasized that, throughout his career, he only followed in the footsteps of two great men: his father, Salim Khan, and Dharmendra. "On a script level, I have tried to follow my father," Khan explained. "These are the only two people who have inspired me in a good way".
Salman Khan's heartfelt tribute wasn't just a spur-of-the-moment utterance; it echoed the sentiments he has expressed over the years. Dharmendra himself often referred to Salman as his "third son," a testament to their close bond. Following Dharmendra's death, Salman was among the first Bollywood celebrities to pay his respects.
The superstar also grew emotional while recalling Dharmendra's appearances on "Bigg Boss," remembering the warm connection they shared. A clip showed Dharmendra affectionately calling Salman his son, which brought tears to Salman's eyes.
During the Bigg Boss 19 grand finale, broadcast on December 7, Khan reflected on Dharmendra's legacy in Indian cinema and the deep impact his death had on fans and the film industry. He stated, "We lost the He-Man. We lost the most amazing man. I don't think there is anyone better than Dharmji. The way he lived life was king-size... Love you, Dharmji. Will always miss you".
Salman also commended Sunny and Bobby Deol for the grace and dignity they displayed at Dharmendra's funeral and prayer meet. He noted that the funeral was conducted with utmost respect and was a celebration of life.
Dharmendra's passing coincided with a particularly poignant time for Salman, as he passed away on Salman's father, Salim Khan's birthday. The Bigg Boss 19 finale also coincided with what would have been Dharmendra's 90th birthday and also Salman's mother's birthday.
