Dyche Disappointed with Nottingham Forest's Performance in Fulham Loss
Fulham defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0, leaving Forest "in the relegation mix" during the Christmas season. Sean Dyche expressed his disappointment with Nottingham Forest's performance, calling it "wishy-washy" following their 1-0 defeat to Fulham. The defeat occurred at Craven Cottage.
Nottingham Forest traveled to West London following a 3-0 victory against Tottenham, with the prospect of surpassing Fulham and moving into 15th place with another win. However, the Reds suffered their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat at Craven Cottage, remaining just one place above the relegation zone, despite maintaining a five-point cushion over West Ham.
The decisive moment of the match occurred in first-half stoppage time when Douglas Luiz, while grounded, attempted to clear the ball from Kevin but instead made contact with the winger's heel. VAR determined the contact was sufficient for a foul, leading to a penalty. Raul Jimenez successfully converted the penalty, sending Forest goalkeeper John Victor the wrong way. Dyche acknowledged the penalty decision as "a tough call," adding that players often go down with minimal contact in the box.
Dyche commented on the overall quality of the game, describing it as "low-level" with "a lot of huff and puff from both sides". He felt that Forest did not pose enough questions in the second half and lacked their usual sharpness. He said that when his team has possession, they have to do something with it but it was all a bit "wishy-washy".
Fulham's manager, Marco Silva, praised Jimenez as a "great penalty taker," highlighting his calmness, quality, and bravery. This was Jimenez's fourth goal of the season and his 11th successful Premier League penalty out of 11 attempts.
Fulham's victory lifted them above Bournemouth and Tottenham into 13th place. Silva acknowledged that it wasn't Fulham's best performance but highlighted the importance of the three points. He noted that Forest had possession but failed to create any significant chances, and he praised his team's professional performance in managing the game.
