Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar, a spy action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, continues its impressive run at the box office, maintaining a strong hold in its third week and nearing the ₹900 crore mark worldwide. Released on December 5, 2025, the film has garnered mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, who have praised the performances of the ensemble cast, especially Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, as well as Dhar's direction, cinematography, action sequences, music, world-building, and production values.
The film's domestic collections have surged past ₹700 crore gross. Overseas, Dhurandhar is performing well in North America and the Middle East, with international gross of $22 million. This brings the film's worldwide gross to ₹905 crore after 19 days. Dhurandhar has become the first Indian release of 2025 to cross the ₹900 crore mark worldwide.
According to Sacnilk.com, Dhurandhar earned ₹17.25 crore net in India on Tuesday, bringing the film's domestic collections to ₹589.50 crore net (₹707.25 crore gross). The film has already set a record for the best third week ever by an Indian film, crossing the ₹129 crore mark in India in just 5 days.
Dhurandhar has also created a new box office record by collecting ₹20 crore or more for 17 consecutive days. Trade experts are confident that the film's consistency will propel it beyond the ₹1000 crore milestone, making it the first film of Ranveer Singh's career to enter the elite club.
The film's plot revolves around a covert operation led by Indian Intelligence Bureau chief Ajay Sanyal (R. Madhavan), who recruits a death-row inmate, Jaskirat Singh Rangi, also known as Hamza (Ranveer Singh), to infiltrate the underworld mafia of Karachi. Set against the backdrop of real-life events such as the IC-814 hijacking and the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the film follows Hamza's journey as he climbs the ranks of the Lyari gang, led by Rehman Dakait (Akshaye Khanna), while secretly working to dismantle the network from within. The film explores themes of betrayal, revenge, and the complexities of India-Pakistan relations.
While the film is claimed to be a work of fiction, the plot loosely connects several real-life events involving geopolitical tensions such as the 1999 IC-814 hijack, the 2001 Indian Parliament attack, the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and Operation Lyari.
Made on a budget of ₹275 crore, Dhurandhar has emerged as a major commercial success. The film's success is attributed to its intriguing plot, chartbuster music, and the performances of its cast. A sequel, Dhurandhar: Part 2 – Revenge, is scheduled to release on March 19, 2026.
