Mumbai, Dec 24, 2025 - Actress Sara Ali Khan has recently expressed her fondness for the time she spent filming Aanand L. Rai's "Atrangi Re," a romantic drama also starring Dhanush and Akshay Kumar. With the movie having completed 4 years since its release on Wednesday, Sara shared that shooting for "Atrangi Re" was truly the highlight of 2020 for her.
Khan took to her Instagram Stories to commemorate the anniversary, posting a photo collage of behind-the-scenes moments from the film. She wrote, "4 years…How time flies sir @AanandLRai…Truly the best moments of 2020. I knew that then and such precious memories that I will cherish forever. I know that now".
"Atrangi Re" faced production delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film's initial schedule commenced in Varanasi in March 2020 but was suspended due to the nationwide lockdown. Production resumed in October 2020 with a second shooting schedule in Madurai. Khan described the experience of filming amidst the pandemic as "strange," with safety measures in place for the cast and crew. Despite the unusual circumstances, she noted that the passion and enthusiasm within the film fraternity remained unchanged.
Khan has previously expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work with director Aanand L. Rai, known for films like "Tanu Weds Manu" and "Raanjhanaa". She has said that Rai became a supportive figure for her during a challenging year.
"Atrangi Re" tells the story of Rinku Suryavanshi (played by Sara Ali Khan) who is in love with a magician named Sajjad (played by Akshay Kumar). However, she is forced to marry Dr. Vishu (played by Dhanush), who is already engaged. The film explores their journey and the complexities of love.
Looking ahead, Sara Ali Khan is set to appear in Mudassar Aziz's "Pati Patni Aur Woh Do," alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Wamiqa Gabbi. This film, a sequel to the 2019 movie "Pati Patni Aur Woh," is scheduled for release in theaters on March 4, 2026. The makers have described the film as a story filled with "laughter, love, and chaos".
