Unnao Rape Survivor Seeks Transfer to Congress-Ruled State Amidst Ongoing Legal Battle and Safety Concerns.

The Unnao rape survivor, who was allegedly raped by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in 2017 when she was a minor, has sought relocation to a state governed by the Congress party, citing concerns for her safety. This request came after the Delhi High Court suspended Sengar's life sentence and granted him bail pending his appeal.

On Wednesday, the survivor and her mother met with Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi to seek help in their legal battle against Sengar. The survivor reportedly expressed fears for her life, stating that the court's order has instilled fear in women across the country. She described the decision to suspend Sengar's sentence as "death" for her family and voiced her intent to appeal to the Supreme Court for justice.

During the meeting, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi assured the survivor and her family that they would do everything in their power to ensure justice, security, and dignity for the victim. Rahul Gandhi promised to arrange a top lawyer to represent her case in the Supreme Court and to assist her in relocating to a Congress-ruled state. He also offered to look into the survivor's husband's request for a better job.

The survivor also stated that she is seeking time to meet with the Prime Minister and the President, hoping that the President, being a woman, would understand her pain. She criticized the court's decision to grant bail to Sengar, arguing that it displayed sympathy towards the convict rather than the victim. She also voiced concerns about her safety, despite having CRPF security.

Earlier, the Delhi Police had broken up a protest by the survivor's family at India Gate, which drew criticism and further highlighted the survivor's vulnerability. Rahul Gandhi condemned the police action, stating that such treatment of a victim of a heinous crime was inappropriate and that India was turning into a "dead society". He also expressed disappointment and shame that Sengar, the perpetrator, had been granted bail.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also decided to appeal to the Supreme Court against the Delhi High Court's order to suspend Sengar's sentence. The CBI maintains its stance that the conviction and sentence awarded in the Unnao rape case must remain in force. Despite the bail order in the rape case, Sengar will remain in jail as he is serving a 10-year sentence in connection with the custodial death of the rape survivor's father.
