Cillian Murphy is back as Tommy Shelby in the newly released teaser trailer for "Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man," the highly anticipated film continuation of the acclaimed BBC series. The 70-second teaser, released by Netflix on Christmas Eve, offers a glimpse into Tommy's tumultuous world amidst the chaos of World War II.
The film is set to premiere in select cinemas on March 6, 2026, before hitting Netflix on March 20, 2026. This marks a near four-year hiatus since the series concluded in April 2022, leaving fans eager to see the Shelby family's final chapter.
The trailer opens with the question, "Whatever happened to Tommy Shelby? The famous gypsy gangster". It portrays Tommy grappling with his identity, with Shelby stating “I'm not that man any more”. He is shown in his signature suit and flat cap, a symbol that gained immense popularity because of the show. A female voice urges, "Tommy, you've got to come back," hinting at the challenges that draw him out of his self-imposed exile. The film's synopsis reveals that Tommy must confront his demons and decide whether to face his legacy or let it all burn.
Returning cast members include Sophie Rundle as Ada Thorne, Ned Dennehy as Charlie Strong, Packy Lee as Johnny Dogs, Ian Peck as Curly, and Stephen Graham as Hayden Stagg. New additions to the cast include Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Jay Lycurgo, and Barry Keoghan. While the exact identity of Keoghan's character is under wraps, the trailer offers a glimpse of him as a leader of a new generation of Peaky Blinders.
"Peaky Blinders," created by Steven Knight, aired for six seasons, gaining a global following after being picked up by Netflix in 2014. Knight returns to write the film, with Tom Harper, who directed several episodes of the series, at the helm.
The film is set in 1940s Birmingham amidst the Second World War. The film will depict a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz, with a new generation of Shelbys taking the wheel.
In addition to the film, the "Peaky Blinders" universe is set to expand with two new series focusing on a new generation of Shelbys, set in 1953. These series will be filmed at Digbeth Loc Studios in Birmingham. Cillian Murphy will return as an executive producer for the spin-off series.
