Jeremy Bracco's Hockey Journey: Examining the Rise and Fall of a Former Maple Leafs Hopeful.

Jeremy Bracco, drafted 61st overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015, was once a promising prospect whose journey took several unexpected turns. Now at 28, the American right-winger's career has evolved into a hockey odyssey across Europe, a far cry from the NHL aspirations that once defined him.

After being drafted, Bracco played high school hockey at Portledge School and later joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (U.S. NTDP). His performance with the U.S. NTDP led to an invitation to the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. He initially committed to Boston College but left after just five games to join the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL. Bracco's time with the Kitchener Rangers was marked by significant offensive contributions. During the 2016-17 season, he tallied 51 points in 26 games, leading the Rangers in assists and points.

Following his OHL stint, Bracco joined the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs, in 2017. In his first season, he recorded 32 points in 50 games. He was also part of the Marlies team that won the Calder Cup. In the 2018-19 season, Bracco excelled, earning a spot on the AHL First All-Star Team. However, despite his AHL success, he never received an NHL call-up with the Leafs.

In 2020, the Maple Leafs chose not to extend a qualifying offer to Bracco, making him a free agent. He then signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. After attending training camp, he was assigned to the Chicago Wolves, the Hurricanes' AHL affiliate. Before the AHL season started, Bracco opted to terminate his contract with the Hurricanes and pursue opportunities in Europe.

Bracco's European journey began with KalPa in Finland's Liiga in 2021. He then played for Krefeld Pinguine in Germany during the 2021-22 season. The following season, he joined Barys Nur-Sultan in the KHL. Most recently, he played for HC Sochi in the KHL.

As of late 2025, Bracco had signed a contract extension with HK Poprad in Slovakia for the 2025/26 season. Prior to that, he played a few games for HC Innsbruck. This season, Bracco is suiting up with the Regensburg Polar Bears in Germany's second division, the DEL-2, where he has recorded four goals and six assists in 12 games.

Throughout his career, Bracco has also represented the United States in international competitions. He was a member of the gold-medal-winning U.S. National Junior Team at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship. He also won a gold medal with the U.S. Men's National Team at the 2015 IIHF Men's U-18 World Championship.

While an NHL career didn't materialize for Bracco, he has carved out a respectable professional career. Known for his exceptional passing, skating, and hockey sense, he continues to display his offensive abilities in Europe.
