PM Modi Attends Christmas Service: Prayers, Message of Unity and Harmony Shared During Festive Gathering

New Delhi, December 25, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today joined Christmas celebrations by attending a morning service at the Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi. The Prime Minister participated in the service alongside a large congregation of Christians from Delhi and North India.

The service included traditional elements of Christmas worship, such as prayers, carols, and hymns. Rt. Rev. Dr. Paul Swarup, the Bishop of Delhi, offered a special prayer for the Prime Minister during the service.

Following his visit, Prime Minister Modi shared a message on social media platform X, extending Christmas greetings to the nation. "Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with peace, compassion and hope. May the teachings of Jesus Christ strengthen harmony in our society," the Prime Minister wrote. He also stated, "Attended the Christmas morning service at The Cathedral Church of the Redemption in Delhi. The service reflected the timeless message of love, peace and compassion. May the spirit of Christmas inspire harmony and goodwill in our society". Officials said the Prime Minister's message highlighted the importance of love, service, and brotherhood in fostering social harmony and mutual respect.

Choir singers at the Church expressed their delight. One of the choir singers, Sara, said that the Prime Minister attended the whole service and also offered prayers. Another choir singer, Akanksha, said, "Our day became happier when the Prime Minister visited here, and we sang in front of him".

The Prime Minister's presence at the Christmas service is part of his ongoing engagement with various religious communities in India. In the past, he has participated in various events, including attending a program at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Delhi during Easter 2023, hosting a Christmas program at his residence in 2023, and attending a Christmas dinner at Minister George Kurian's residence in 2024.

The visit occurs against a backdrop of concerns raised by Christian groups regarding attacks and disruptions targeting churches and Christmas-related events. Some Christmas carol services, prayer gatherings, and community celebrations have faced objections and alleged attacks, leading to cancellations in some states.

Opposition leaders and minority rights activists have questioned the government's response to these incidents, calling for concrete steps to protect religious freedom. Christian organizations have called for peace and harmony, urging the government to ensure the safety of worship and festivities.

Bishop Swarup described Modi's visit as a 'spontaneous gesture' of goodwill, aimed at fostering a spirit of unity during the festive season.

Christmas is celebrated across India with decorations, lights, and festive markets. The festival emphasizes a message of peace, love, and harmony.
