Former Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh has found himself back in the spotlight within the party, marked by increased involvement in key meetings and strategic discussions. This resurgence comes after a period of relative absence from the forefront of BJP's activities in West Bengal, signaling a potential shift in the party's approach ahead of the 2026 elections.

Ghosh's re-emergence was particularly noticeable during Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent visit to Kolkata. He was seen entering the hotel where Shah was staying and participating in a closed-door meeting with state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and junior Union minister Sukanta Majumdar. While Ghosh remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the meeting, he conveyed his readiness to take on a larger role within the party. "I came to listen to Amit-ji. I will see what role the party decides," Ghosh stated, hinting at a possible assignment in the upcoming campaign.

Sources suggest that Ghosh is likely to be entrusted with a significant campaign role, leveraging his experience and aggressive campaigning style. A senior party leader emphasized the need for Ghosh's involvement in the upcoming Assembly polls, stating that his campaigning style can be valuable.

Ghosh, who served as the President of the West Bengal BJP starting in 2015, is known for his straightforward approach. His tenure was marked by aggressive campaign strategies and significant electoral gains for the party. He has also served as a Member of Parliament, representing the Medinipur constituency in the Lok Sabha.

However, the absence of key Matua and Rajbangshi leaders, such as Gaighata MLA Subrata Thakur, Haringhata MLA Asim Sarkar, and RS member Ananta Maharaj, from a recent BJP meeting has raised eyebrows and underscored potential unease within certain sections of the party.

Amit Shah has set the tone for the upcoming Assembly polls by criticizing the Mamata Banerjee government, accusing it of demographic changes through infiltration and widespread corruption. Shah also formed a core group within the BJP to spearhead the party's efforts in the Bengal polls, with Dilip Ghosh included in this group. According to senior leaders, this inclusion signifies a bridging of the gap between the old and new guard within the party.

Ghosh's role had diminished after he was replaced as state party chief in 2021, following the party's failure to unseat the TMC. For several months, he remained largely absent from party activities in the state. However, Ghosh had hinted at a more active role in the 2026 elections, stating, "You will see an active Dilip Ghosh in 2026".

The BJP seems to be aiming to consolidate its strategies and bring experienced leaders back to the forefront to strengthen its position in West Bengal. The party হাইcommand has reportedly instructed its leaders to set aside their differences and collaborate as a cohesive team.
