R Ashwin suggests CSK should capitalize on Sarfaraz Khan's great form and include him in the playing eleven.

Indian cricket circles are buzzing after R Ashwin's strong endorsement of Sarfaraz Khan, urging the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to capitalize on the young batsman's sensational form. This comes on the heels of Sarfaraz's explosive performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he blasted 157 runs off just 75 balls against Goa.

Ashwin took to social media platform X to express his views, emphasizing Sarfaraz's consistent performances in domestic cricket. He highlighted Sarfaraz's impressive run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), where he scored 329 runs in seven matches at a striking rate of 203.08 and an average of 65.80. Ashwin noted how Sarfaraz seamlessly carried that form into the Vijay Hazare Trophy, following up an initial score of 55 with a blistering 157.

"100*(47), 52(40), 64(25), 73(22) in the SMAT. That form's transitioned seamlessly into the Hazare with scores of 55(49) followed by a blistering 157(75) today with 14 sixes," Ashwin posted. He further added, "It's particularly impressive how he murders spin in the middle overs with his sweeps and slog sweeps".

Ashwin's post also included a Tamil phrase, "Avan kadhava thattala, idichi odachitu irukaan," which translates to "He is not knocking on the door, he is breaking it open". This vividly illustrates Ashwin's belief in Sarfaraz's potential and his eagerness to see him included in CSK's playing XI.

Sarfaraz's innings against Goa was nothing short of spectacular. Batting at number four, he reached his century in a mere 56 balls, demonstrating a blend of aggression and precision. His innings comprised 9 boundaries and 14 sixes, achieving a strike rate exceeding 209. He then accelerated, scoring his final 57 runs off just 21 balls. His performance overshadowed other contributions in the match, including those of Yashasvi Jaiswal (46) and Musheer Khan (60). Mumbai ultimately posted a formidable total of 444/8.

CSK secured Sarfaraz's services for his base price of INR 75 lakh in the IPL 2026 auction. Ashwin believes that CSK should look at riding his purple patch by slotting him into the Playing XII. He acknowledged that CSK faces a "genuine problem of plenty with the bat" this season but emphasized the value Sarfaraz brings, especially his ability to dominate spin bowling in the middle overs.

Sarfaraz has previously played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals. If he gets a chance, IPL 2026 would mark his first appearance in the league since 2023.

Sarfaraz himself expressed his gratitude to CSK, stating, "Thank you so much, CSK for giving me new life. I will make sure CSK will lift the 2026 title". His recent form certainly strengthens his case for a spot in the playing XI, and it remains to be seen how CSK will utilize this talented batsman in the upcoming IPL season.
