Mumbai, January 1, 2026 – Television actor Arjun Bijlani was overcome with emotion at the funeral of his father-in-law, Rakesh Chandra Swami, on Thursday, January 1, 2026. Videos circulating on social media show Bijlani struggling to hold back tears during the solemn ceremony, which took place at the family's residence in Mumbai.

Rakesh Chandra Swami, 73, passed away on January 1, 2026, after being admitted to the ICU three days prior. He had been on a ventilator since Monday evening after suffering a sudden stroke. According to a family member, Swami was in good health and about to have dinner when the stroke occurred. He was then immediately taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Arjun Bijlani, along with his wife Neha, had been in Dubai celebrating the New Year when they received news of the medical emergency. They immediately cut their vacation short and returned to Mumbai on Tuesday.

The funeral was attended by close family members, friends, and relatives who gathered to pay their final respects. In a video shared on Instagram, Arjun is seen with folded hands, offering his last prayers. Another clip shows him breaking down as the rituals were performed. Bijlani was also seen as a pallbearer, carrying Rakesh Chandra Swami’s body.

Adding to the emotional weight of the moment, Arjun was also seen consoling his young son during the final rites. He hugged his son tightly, offering comfort as the family mourned the loss.

Sources indicate that Arjun shared a close bond with his father-in-law, particularly because he lost his own father at a young age. Those close to the family have said that this loss has deeply shaken him.

Rakesh Chandra Swami is survived by his daughter, Neha Swami, and his son, Nishank Swami. The final rites were held at the Oshiwara crematorium on Thursday afternoon. As of now, Arjun and Neha have not released an official statement. Arjun and Neha got married in 2013.
