Liam Rosenior has officially been appointed as the new head coach of Chelsea Football Club, signing a contract that extends through 2032. The 41-year-old Englishman arrives at Stamford Bridge after a successful stint coaching RC Strasbourg, where he guided the French club to European qualification for the first time in 19 years. He previously held managerial positions with Hull City and Derby County in England. Rosenior was appointed on January 6, 2026, and began working with the squad after their league match against Fulham on January 7.
Upon his appointment, Rosenior expressed his enthusiasm and respect for the club. "I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club," he stated. He acknowledged the club's rich history and the passionate fanbase, saying, "This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies". He emphasized his commitment to "protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies".
Rosenior highlighted the importance of teamwork, unity, and togetherness as the foundations for success. "I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do. They will be the foundation of our success," he affirmed.
Chelsea's official announcement conveyed the club's high expectations for Rosenior. "Liam has shown that he can build teams with a clear way of playing while setting the highest standards with players on and off the pitch," the statement read. The club recognizes the need to continue focusing on player development while maintaining high ambitions. Chelsea believes that Rosenior "has the ability to get the best out of this squad quickly and joins us with the responsibility and the backing to ensure Chelsea continues to compete at the top level in all competitions this season and in seasons to come".
Rosenior's backroom staff has also been confirmed, featuring familiar faces from his time at RC Strasbourg. Kalifa Cisse and Justin Walker have been appointed as first-team coaches, while Ben Warner joins as first-team analyst. Calum McFarlane has been promoted to first-team coach from his previous role with the Under-21s, and Harry Hudson will now take charge of the Under-21s. Ben Roberts will serve as the goalkeeper coach, and Bernardo Cueva will continue to lead the set-piece department.
There are already reports about Rosenior's potential first signings for Chelsea. According to DSports, he is interested in bringing in Valentin Barco, an Argentine international who played under him at Strasbourg. Rosenior will be in the dugout for the first time when Chelsea faces Charlton Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup.
