Rekha Gupta Criticizes AAP's Sexist Trolling Following Her CM Candidacy Challenge; Intolerable Treatment Condemned.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has strongly criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for what she describes as targeted trolling and personal attacks against her. Speaking at the Delhi Assembly on Friday, Gupta expressed her pain at being targeted as a woman Chief Minister, suggesting a gender bias in the opposition's criticism.

Gupta addressed specific instances of alleged misrepresentation and the creation of social media reels based on minor slips in her speeches. She cited an example where she mistakenly said "Congress" instead of "British" during a speech, which was then amplified and mocked by the opposition. Gupta argued that such errors are unintentional and common, but the AAP deliberately misled the public by blowing them out of proportion. She contrasted her unintentional errors with what she claims are deliberate attempts by the AAP to mislead the people of Delhi.

"A woman chief minister working round-the-clock does not seem to sit well with them," Gupta stated, implying that her work ethic and gender are factors in the criticism she faces. She added, "They don't like the fact that a woman Chief Minister is working 24/7. They make fun of the words I accidentally utter".

Gupta launched a sharp critique of AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, referencing his past promises of simple living and contrasting them with his current lifestyle. "Those who once took oaths on their children, and claimed they would not seek power, cars, bungalows or posts eventually travelled from Ramlila Maidan protest to the Sheesh Mahal," she said.

She also accused AAP leaders of intentionally insulting religious gurus and deliberately referring to the Assembly as a "gallows house" as part of a conspiracy.

Addressing the previous government, Gupta stated that her administration focuses on cooperation and systems rather than confrontation and slogans. "This government believes in cooperation, not confrontation and in systems, not slogans," she added. She criticized the previous administration's handling of hospital construction, alleging poor planning and financial mismanagement that led to significant cost overruns. She also claimed that nearly 150,000 properties in Delhi operated without electricity meters under the previous government, resulting in widespread theft and corruption, which her government has addressed by ensuring legal electricity connections.

In August 2025, Gupta faced an attack, and a BJP MLA shared an image linking the attacker to the AAP, further intensifying the political fallout. Harish Khurana, the BJP MLA, shared a photograph on social media claiming it showed the attacker, Sakaria Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, alongside AAP's Gujarat MLA Gopal Italia. Khurana suggested the picture raised questions about whether the attack had political backing.
