Rhea Chakraborty has recently opened up about the profound impact that Sushant Singh Rajput's death had on her life, reflecting on the challenging period and the support system that helped her navigate the storm.
In a recent podcast episode, Chakraborty shared insights into her emotional state following Rajput's death in June 2020. The actress found herself at the center of a nationwide controversy, facing intense scrutiny and accusations. She described 2020 as the most challenging year of her life. Chakraborty revealed that she experienced emotional devastation and credited the women around her for providing unwavering support, which she said was crucial for her family's survival. "As my dad says, if it weren't for these women, we would have never survived," she stated.
Chakraborty faced allegations of abetting Rajput's suicide and was subjected to investigations by multiple agencies, including the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). She was arrested in September 2020 on suspicion of providing Rajput with marijuana and spent 28 days in Byculla jail before being granted bail in October 2020.
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Chakraborty recounted the public scrutiny she faced, including being called names. Despite the negativity, she said she learned to forgive, which helped her regain her life. She acknowledged that she was "almost forced" to follow a "path of forgiveness" to find peace.
Looking back, Chakraborty has acknowledged the mental health challenges she faced, including depression and PTSD. She said it took her years to heal and start a new chapter in her life. "There was pain, anxiety, PTSD, and whatnot," Chakraborty shared, emphasizing the long-lasting impact of grief.
Despite the difficulties, Chakraborty has expressed a desire to create a safe space for open conversations and has been working on her healing journey. The CBI officially closed the case in 2025, absolving her of all accusations.
