In a recent update to the Indian squad, Ayush Badoni has received his maiden ODI call-up, stepping in to replace Washington Sundar, who has been ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against New Zealand due to a left lower rib injury. Sundar reported acute discomfort while bowling during the first ODI in Vadodara. He will undergo further scans, and the BCCI Medical Team will seek expert opinion to assess the extent of the injury.
The 24-year-old Badoni, a bowling all-rounder, will join the team in Rajkot, the venue for the second ODI. This call-up marks a significant moment in his burgeoning cricket career.
Ayush Badoni, born on December 3, 1999, in Delhi, is a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler. He plays for Delhi in domestic cricket and represents Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Badoni made his Twenty20 debut for Delhi on January 11, 2021, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Badoni has played 54 IPL matches, scoring 963 runs in 46 innings, with a highest score of 74. In SMAT (Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy) matches, he has 210 runs in 6 innings with a highest score of 80. He also has 206 runs in 5 DODI (domestic one day) matches, including a century.
In February 2022, Lucknow Super Giants acquired Badoni for the 2022 IPL season. He made an immediate impact, scoring 54 runs in his debut match for the team on March 28, 2022.
India won the first ODI against New Zealand, chasing down a target of 300 with one over to spare. Virat Kohli nearly scored a century, and Shreyas Iyer also contributed with 49 runs. The second ODI will be held in Rajkot on January 14.
India's squad for the 2nd and 3rd ODIs now includes Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel (WK), and Ayush Badoni.
