Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha donned the yellow uniform of a Blinkit delivery executive for a day, drawing attention to the working conditions of gig workers in India. Through this exercise, Chadha aimed to understand the daily realities and challenges faced by delivery partners, a cause he has championed in Parliament and on public platforms.

Chadha shared a video on social media, capturing his experience as he navigated city streets to complete deliveries. The video shows him wearing Blinkit's signature uniform and riding pillion on a delivery agent's motorbike. He is seen picking up orders and traveling to deliver them, mirroring the routine of a Blinkit delivery worker. "Away from boardrooms, at the grassroots. I lived their day," Chadha wrote in his post.

This action comes amid growing demands from gig workers for policy changes, particularly regarding the rise of ultra-fast delivery models like the 10-minute delivery service. Gig workers argue that these models increase pressure, safety risks, and create unrealistic performance expectations. Chadha has criticized the "exploitative realities" of gig work, sharing instances of delivery partners earning meager amounts for long hours. In one case, a Blinkit delivery partner earned ₹762.57 after completing 28 deliveries across nearly 15 hours. He has also pointed out that a delivery rider earned just over ₹52 per hour, with most of the amount coming from order payments and only a small incentive component.

Chadha has been vocal about the need for fair wages, humane working hours, and social security benefits for gig workers. He has described these demands as "non-negotiable," arguing that India's digital economy should not be built on the backs of overworked and underpaid workers.

In December, Chadha invited a Blinkit delivery worker, Thapliyal Ji from Uttarakhand, to his residence for lunch after a video of the worker's earnings went viral. He has also engaged with delivery executives from various quick-commerce companies to understand their concerns.

Chadha has criticized the response of some platform owners to the demands of gig workers. When Zomato and Blinkit founder Deepinder Goyal described striking workers as "miscreants," Chadha responded sharply, stating that it was "insulting" and "dangerous" to turn a labor demand into a law and order narrative. He has also argued that if companies need police support to function, it is an admission that the system "doesn't work".

Several organizations have rallied behind the cause of gig workers, including the Gig and Platform Service Workers' Union (GIPSWU), who have organized strikes to amplify demands for fair treatment. These unions accuse companies like Blinkit of exploiting delivery riders to achieve their delivery promises, forcing them to endure extreme and unsafe conditions. Some workers have alleged that Blinkit has blocked worker IDs in retaliation for protests over wages and working hours and coerced them into signing agreements waiving their right to future protest as a condition of reinstatement.

Chadha has reiterated his commitment to pursuing the issue of gig workers' rights both inside and outside Parliament. "This is a fight I will see through," he stated, emphasizing that these workers "deserve better than to be called 'miscreants' for asking to be treated as human beings".
