To alleviate the persistent traffic congestion and waterlogging issues plaguing West Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, inaugurated the Nangloi-Najafgarh road revamp project on Tuesday. This ₹64.04 crore initiative aims to modernize and strengthen the existing road infrastructure, while also constructing a comprehensive drainage system.

The project entails the construction of new stormwater drains and the upgrading of existing ones, ensuring proper outflow connections to the Ranhola Drain, Najafgarh (Sahibi River), and Mungeshpur Drain. Furthermore, the road itself will undergo strengthening and reconstruction, with the addition of RCC crash barriers along the central verge to enhance safety and ensure effective drainage during the monsoon season.

CM Gupta emphasized the Delhi government's commitment to improving the city's drainage and stormwater management systems through modern approaches. The goal is to ensure that only treated water flows into the Yamuna River in the future, permanently resolving the capital's waterlogging problems.

LG VK Saxena recalled his visit to the area in September 2024, where he witnessed the dilapidated conditions of the roads and drains. Sewage water flowed freely, roads were severely damaged, and potholes and filth created miserable conditions for residents. He stated that he immediately directed the government to take corrective action.

The project is a collaborative effort involving multiple Public Works Department divisions (WR-1, WR-2, and SWR-2) and coordination among various agencies, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Development Authority, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Delhi Jal Board, power and gas utilities, and the Traffic Police. This collaborative approach seeks to ensure the project's effective and sustainable execution.

The revamp is expected to directly benefit lakhs of residents who have endured significant hardships for decades due to overflowing drains, damaged roads, potholes, and chronic traffic bottlenecks. Once complete, the project promises to significantly improve drainage across the corridor, upgrade road infrastructure, and reduce dust and pollution levels in the area.

PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, who attended the event, mentioned that the project would improve the roads in the area.

LG Saxena stated that the project fulfills a long-pending demand of the people of Nangloi and Najafgarh. He added that the project, encompassing road strengthening, stormwater drain construction, footpaths, and a central verge, would positively impact residents' lives by ensuring smoother traffic flow, safer commuting, and relief from waterlogging during the monsoon season.
