A court in Chandausi has mandated the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against former Sambhal Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhary, former Sambhal Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Anuj Tomar, and additional unidentified police personnel concerning the Sambhal violence case of 2024.
The order, issued on January 9 by Chief Judicial Magistrate Vibhanshu Sudhir, responds to a plea submitted by Yameen, whose son sustained injuries during the unrest. Yameen alleges that his 24-year-old son, Alam, was shot by police on November 24, 2024, near the Shahi Jama Masjid area while he was out selling papad. The complaint identifies Chaudhary, Tomar, and 10 to 12 unidentified policemen as responsible. Advocate Chaudhary Akhtar Hussain Sajeb confirmed that the court accepted the plea seeking an FIR.
Sambhal Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi stated that the order would be challenged, asserting that a judicial inquiry has already been conducted.
The violence in question erupted on November 24, 2024, amidst a court-ordered survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, following a civil suit alleging the structure stood on the site of an ancient Harihar temple. The unrest resulted in five fatalities and injuries to 29 police officers.
Currently, Chaudhary is posted as the Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) in Firozabad, while Tomar serves as the SHO of Chandausi Kotwali in the Sambhal district. Alam received treatment while remaining in hiding from the police.
