Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has consistently refuted allegations that his party serves as a "B-team" for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In various interviews and public statements, Owaisi has addressed these claims, asserting that his party independently champions the rights and interests of marginalized communities, particularly Muslims.

The "B-team" accusation typically arises from the perception that AIMIM's participation in elections, especially in states with significant Muslim populations, inadvertently splits the opposition vote, thus benefiting the BJP. Critics argue that AIMIM's presence in the electoral arena weakens the chances of secular parties defeating the BJP, indirectly aiding the latter's cause.

Owaisi has countered this narrative by emphasizing that AIMIM is a legitimate political party with its own distinct ideology and agenda. He asserts that AIMIM's primary goal is to represent the concerns of Muslims and other marginalized groups who he believes have been historically underrepresented by mainstream parties. He argues that these groups have the right to political representation and that AIMIM is simply fulfilling that need.

In an interview with NDTV, Owaisi challenged his critics to introspect and address their own weaknesses. He has questioned why mainstream parties like Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) only seek Muslim votes without being willing to form alliances with AIMIM. He has, at times, offered to form alliances with these parties to defeat the BJP, suggesting that their reluctance exposes the hypocrisy of their accusations.

Owaisi has also pointed out the inconsistencies in the "B-team" allegations by reminding people that he has criticized the BJP government and its policies on numerous occasions. He has questioned why his opposition to the BJP is ignored when the "B-team" narrative is pushed.

Furthermore, Owaisi has turned the question back on the BJP's critics, particularly regarding the issue of illegal immigration in Bihar. During an NDTV interview, he challenged the BJP to name even ten infiltrators in Bihar, while also pointing out that the BJP is in power both at the center and in the state. He argued that if illegal immigration is indeed a problem, it is the responsibility of the BJP-led governments to address it. He accused the NDA combine in Bihar of defaming Muslims after ignoring their progress.

In the context of the 2025 Bihar elections, Owaisi addressed the issue of forming alliances with the Mahagathbandhan. He stated that while his party is open to alliances, the decision ultimately rests on the strategic considerations of both AIMIM and its potential partners. He expressed that he was told that he did not want to be in an alliance when scholars and intellectuals had told him so.

The debate surrounding AIMIM's role in Indian politics and the "B-team" allegations continues to be a contentious one. While critics maintain that AIMIM indirectly benefits the BJP by dividing the opposition vote, Owaisi and his supporters argue that the party is a legitimate voice for marginalized communities and that the accusations are a form of political opportunism aimed at discrediting their movement.
